Qingdao Exports More Machinery & Electronic Items

Qingdao, a coastal city in east China's Shandong Province, exported 739 million US dollars worth of machinery and electronic items during the first half of the year, a rise of 61.6 percent on a yearly basis.

The increase rate is 19.9 percentage points higher than local export growth average.

Machinery and electronic products accounts for 26.5 percent of local exports.

In the six-month period, local exports of these items both to the US and to EU more than doubled 1999's figure.

Local big enterprises which have right to conduct exports also played an important role in increasing exports.

Haier Group, a world-label household appliance manufacturer, handled 165 million US dollars of exports from January to June, a rise of 138 percent from 1999.

Hisense Group, another locally-based enterprise, exported 24.58 million US dollars of products in the six months, a rise of 168 percent from last year.

Overseas-funded enterprises contribute as much as 65 percent of local exports of machinery and electronic products.
