Price of Xinjiang's Botany Wools Up

The price of botany wool produced in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region edged up markedly compared to a year ago.

At a recent auction held in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, more than 560 tons of quality botany wool was sold for 17.7 yuan (2.13 US dollars) per kilogram, with the highest standing at 26.6 yuan, much higher than last year's price of 11 yuan.

Xinjiang is the biggest botany wool producer in China and its annual output stands at 15,000 tons, some 4,000 tons are thinner than 21 microns.

China has been is a major importer of Australian botany wool. However, Zhang Jici, an official with the Xinjiang Association for Botany Wools Producers, said he is confident that the Xinjiang botany wool will be able to compete with Australia's so long as its quality keep improving and quantity continues to increase.

The Gongnaisi Breeding Sheep Farm, the biggest in Xinjiang, sold only 25 breeding sheep last year, but so far this year, the farm has sold 800 of its breeding sheep as a result of the price increase for the botany wool.

Zhang predicted that the price of Xinjiang botany wool will continue to rise and will become an important factor which affects the price of Australian botany wool.
