Beijing is preparing for the 2008 Olympics, according to an expert at a transport conference organized by the Beijing Olympic Games Bid Committee(BOBICO).
According to Beijing's transport administration, Beijing's public transport system will be be able to accommodate 6.4 billion passengers a year in 2008. Beijing's transport administration sectors are employing sophisticated transport technology in dealing with traffic in the capital. The Hong Kong Special Administration Region will follow Beijing's lead in having fines paid with Peoney credit cards.
A GPS position spotting system will be set up in the next five years. Beijing will further expand its highways, develop its railway system and continue to protect the environment. All buses in the capital are expected to be environmentally friendly by 2006.
