Drexler Misses Flight for NBA Legends Tour in China

Clyde "the Glide" Drexler missed the flight to Beijing on Monday for the NBA Legends Tour in China, but team director Mel Davis said the most prestigious player would not disappoint his Chinese fans.

Drexler, one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players, is the leading name of the legendary players from the NBA Retired Players Association (NBRPA) and the highlight of the 10-day tour in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.

But the former Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets player failed to catch the flight of the Northwest Airline at Detroit, which arrived here at 16:50 pm. Until now, there is no information about where he is.

Davis, who arrived the Beijing International Airport at 20:17 pm, said Drexler might be here later tonight or Tuesday morning, but he also did not know the reason why Drexler missed the afternoon flight.

Drexler, who was one of the three players in NBA league history to accumulate 20,000 points, 6,000 rebounds and 6,000 assists, played two NBA Finals for Portland in '90 & '92 and won the championships with Houston in '95.

The 38-year-old received the invitation to coach the University of Houston after his retirement and recently resigned after two seasons.

Others big names of the NBA Legends are like Eddie Johnson, Danny Schayes, Joe Wolf, Buck Williams and Rolando Blackman. Rick Barry, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member, is the Legends' coach.

But Dominique Wilkins and Charles Smith had missed the Tour, said Davis, and the team gave no reasons for their pull outs.

The NBA Legends will play three games - August 11 in Beijing, 14 in Guangzhou and 17 in Shanghai - against the Chinese national team.
