China Sets Rules for Cosmetics Manufacturers

The Ministry of Health recently issued regulations on the sanitation of cosmetics manufacturers in an effort to bring the country's fledgling toiletries industry under control.

The document, comprising seven chapters and 46 articles, sets

rules for the location and design of cosmetics factories, sanitation and storage of raw materials, and the sanitation and health conditions of factory staff.

The workshops must not be located less than 30 meters from any source of pollution; nor must they affect the normal life of local residents, according to the regulations.

Special equipment to ensure the sanitation of the workshops must be installed, and discharge of industrial wastes should meet the relevant national standards, the regulations stipulate.
