Market Share of Domestic Mobile Phones Up

Mobile phones produced by Chinese enterprises are favored by an increasing number of Chinese users.

These phones will account for half of the domestic market share in the next three to five years, said President of the Eastern Communications Co. Ltd Shi Jixing in a recent interview with Xinhua.

Shanghai's mobile phone market reported that the market share of domestic mobile phones has increased from 1-2 percent in the past to 10 percent Monday. The figure is expected to climb to 15 percent by the end of the year.

Statistics showed that in the first three months of the year there were 800,000 mobile phones manufactured by ten designated Chinese enterprises. All their mobile phones were almost sold out.

A recent survey conducted by a research firm in 30 cities showed that 41 percent of respondents were willing to buy domestic mobile phones.

Insiders predict that the number of Chinese mobile phone users will increase by 28 million this year, 10 million more than last year. Five million of them will buy domestic mobile phones.
