Soeharto Paperwork to Be Filed Tuesday: Attorney General

Corruption charges and documents against Indonesia's former president Soeharto will be submitted to court on Tuesday morning, Attorney General Marzuki Darusman told reporters here Monday.

Prosecutors had originally planned to file the paperwork at the South Jakarta District Court Monday.

However, Barman Zahir, who heads Jakarta's higher prosecution office, said this would be delayed while state lawyers put the finishing touches on the documents.

Judicial authorities are reportedly looking for a new location for the corruption trial of Soeharto because of the expected massive interest in the case.

Last Thursday, the Attorney General's Office declared Soeharto, 79, as a defendant in corruption cases.

The state prosecutors said Soeharto would be charged with corruption for the misuse of 1.4 trillion rupiah (150 million US dollars) from seven charities he controlled during his 32-year rule.

It was reported that prosecutors are likely to ask the judge to imprison Soeharto for life when his massive corruption case is tried in the South Jakarta District Court.
