Report Worries About China's Reliance of Foreign Technology
There are several critical problems as China's IT industry develops at a breathtaking pace. The recently published "State IT Security Report" pointed out that China's computer hardware and microprocessors primarily rely on imports. System software and support software are basically foreign products.
According to the Beijing Morning Post, China must wake up to the reality that currently, the network, software, hardware and other products which make up China's IT infrastructure is built on the core technology of foreign countries. Consequently, China's lack of its own technology will result in China not having the power to build its own Internet and power to create its own language for the Internet.
Currently, 80% of the Internet is in English and Chinese websites account for just 0.4%. Another poll shows that the US and Canada have 92 million Internet users sixteen years or older while China only has about 4 million. As China strives to become a major power, if it doesn't pay attention to the struggle over the power to create the Internet, it will become a "small online country".
