First Half Year Witnesses More Taiwan Investment in the Mainland

The Chinese mainland has approved nearly 1,400 Taiwanese invested projects during the first half of this year, 14 percent more than the same period last year.

At a three-day cross-straits agricultural co-operation seminar, a Chinese trade official said these projects have brought the total number of Taiwan-funded projects in the mainland to 45 thousand. The total investment amounts to 25 billion US dollars.

The official says after China's entry into the WTO and with the launch of the country's westen area development project, the mainland will attract more Taiwan investors with more preferential policies and a better investment environment.

Participants in the seminar also agreed that both sides of the Taiwan Straits should forge closer ties to develop agriculture, to enhance efforts to explore the international market.
