Chinese Non-Communist Party Personages Inspect Western RegionRepresentatives of Chinese non-Communist Parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and noted persons without party affiliation have called for promoting greater development of western China according to laws of nature and of the market.After completing inspection tours of 12 provinces, autonomous regions and Chongqing Municipality in the past two months, the delegations urged the local and central governments to draw lessons from economic development worldwide as well as in east China, and to formulate a long-term plan for the development of western China. They called for the development of western China to abide by the principle of achieving unity between ecological and economic efficiency, resource allocation and protection, regional development and overall development, and short-term interests and long-term development. Arranged by the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the delegations consisted of more than 200 leaders of non-Communist parties and experts. The delegations were led by Vice-Chairmen of the Standing Committee of the National People Congress Ding Shisun, Cheng Siwei, Xu Jialu and Jiang Zenghua, and Vice-Chairmen of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Zhaoguo, Sun Fuling, Jing Shuping, Luo Haocai, Zhang Kehui, Zhou Tienong and Wang Wenyuan. The delegations went to villages, cities and towns, plants, hospitals and research institutes in western China to make investigations of infrasturucture construction, ecological protection, the development of resources, readjustment of the industrial mixture, construction of rural towns and the private economy.
