China Eastern Airlines Buys Another Airbus

A new Airbus-319 passenger plane arrived at Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport Sunday to join in the fleet of China Eastern Airlines (CEA) Co. Ltd.

Now, CEA has 29 Airbus planes, making it the company with the most Airbus planes in China, according to CEA sources.

The Airbus-319 has 124 seats. It features added comfort, greater space for container transport and low maintenance cost, and is easy to operate, said a CEA engineer, explaining that pilots who have been trained to fly A2320, A330 and A340 planes can fly the new A319 plane, which helps reduce the company's training time and cost.

CEA obtained the new A319 plane in cooperation with GE Capital Aviation Services by replacing CEA's 13 MD (McDonnell Douglas)-82 planes with ten Airbus-319 planes.

A CEA executive told Xinhua that nine other A-319 planes are to be added to the CEA fleet in the next few years.
