Advertisement Turnover Up 12.3 Percent in First Half Year

China's advertisement turnover hit 28.2 billion yuan (3.9 billion US dollars) in the first half of the year, up 12.3 percent from the corresponding period last year.

A lion's share of the sales volume came from professional advertisement companies, which registered 12.3 billion yuan in sales or an annual growth rate of 24.6 percent, according to the State Administration for Industry and Commerce Friday.

Food, household appliances, medicine, cosmetics, and real estate sectors saw a hefty increase in advertising investment in the January-June period.

The proportion of State-owned, collectively-owned, associated firms and foreign-funded enterprises dropped while private companies increased by 38 percent.

Profit earned through periodicals, newspapers and radios rose by 49 percent, 20.6 percent and 24.8 percent, respectively, while TV ads reported a negative growth of 10.5 percent for the first time in years.

Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong led all other cities in profit-earnings, accounting for nearly 50 percent of the total advertisement profits.
