Seoul Publishes List of Family Reunions

The (South) Korean National Red Cross (KNRC) Saturday announced a list of selected 100 persons to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) next week for family reunions.

The 100 people will enjoy family reunion with their family members or relatives whom they parted before and during the Korean War in 1950-53.

The lucky 100 people to visit the DPRK for reunions with their family members include three in their 90s, 20 in their 80s, 65 in their 70s and 12 in their 60s.

Eighteen will meet their parents or wives, 21 their children and 61 their siblings, nephews or nieces.

Among them, a 71-year-old man will meet his 109-year-old mother.

The remaining 61 will meet their wives, siblings, nephews or nieces in the DPRK.

The South Korean selection was made from among the 138 people whose family members or relatives are alive in the DPRK, which the DPRK Red Cross Society confirmed in a letter to the KNRC last month.

At the historic inter-Korean summit on June 13-15, South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and DPRK leader Kim Jong Il agreed to the family reunions of 100 people on August 15, timed with the 55th anniversary of liberation from the Japanese colonial rule.
