155 Validly Nominated for HK LegCo Seats

155 candidates have been validly nominated for Hong Kong's Legislative Council elections to be held in September, the Electoral Affairs Commission said Saturday.

Returning officers have verified all the nominations for the September elections submitted by 156 persons, and all but one have been ruled as valid, the commission said.

A total of 36 lists of 88 candidates are standing for 24 geographical constituency seats in the September elections. A total of 48 candidates are competing for 21 functional constituency seats, and 10 candidates are contesting six seats via the Election Committee.

Nine functional constituency (FC) candidates have been elected unopposed as Legislative Council members.

At a briefing for the candidates and their agents, Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Justice Woo Kwok-hing, announced that 526 polling stations across Hong Kong would be open to electors on September 10.

Candidates and their agents may monitor the entire count and members of the public are welcome to observe the count at each of the counting stations, Woo said.

He urged all the candidates and their campaign assistants to co-operate with the Commission and relevant authorities to make the elections fair, open and honest.
