Firecrackers-Related Explosion Kills 21

Twenty-one were killed in a firecracker-related explosion in Shangli County of east China's

Jiangxi Province yesterday afternoon.

Another 26 were injured, including two in serious conditions, in the explosion which was triggered by transport of explosive materials for making firecrackers.

The accident happened when Huang Yuexiang, an individual firecracker producer unloaded the explosive materials to his apartment around 14:50 yesterday. The explosion blew up a 60-meter long five-storey building where Huang's apartment is in. Huang illegally transported the two-ton explosive materials from Inner Mongolia in north China.

Rescue work started soon after the accident. The cause of the explosion is yet under further investigation.

A firecracker explosion happened in the same county on March 11this year, in which 33 were killed.
