Stronger Links Between Australia and HK ExpectedThe Financial Secretary Donald Tsang said Friday that he hoped that Hong Kong and Australia could forge even closer links in the years ahead, according to a news release from the Information Service Department. After a meeting in Adelaide with Australia's Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, the financial secretary, who is now paying a four-day visit to Australia, said he was sure that the bilateral economic relationship would become stronger. With China's accession into the World Trade Organization, Tsang said he was sure that relationship will be even further strengthened. Tsang said that there would be opportunities for closer co-operation in industries covering food and wine, seafood, environmental products and Australia's information technology, which he described as 'among the most advanced anywhere in the world'. Downer said Hong Kong and Australia already had a very strong trading and investment relationship. And politically the Australian government has backed Hong Kong very strongly since 1997, Downer said. "And we have been delighted how the 'One Country, Two Systems' formula has worked out for the people of Hong Kong, and our relationship with the leaders in Hong Kong is a very strong one," Dower said.
