Construction Bank Joins Hands with China Netcom

The China Construction Bank (CCB) and the China Netcom Corporation Ltd. today signed an agreement to cooperate in building China's wide-band information network project.

A CCB spokesman said CCB will draw on its competitive advantages in the financial industry to provide China Netcom with credit line, capital clearing, investment banking, banking card and other financial services, and help promote China Netcom's telecommunications infrastructure, IP telephone, IDC, IP wide-band wholesale and 171 dialing online business.

China Netcom was launched in August 1998 by the China Academy of Sciences, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Ministry of Railways and the Shanghai Municipal Government under the leadership of the State Council and the Ministry of Information Industry.

China Netcom is mainly engaged in the construction of telecommunications infrastructure and provides overall wide-band network telecommunications services. China Netcom is China's first IP/DWDM optical fiber network.

When the first stage of the project is completed in the third quarter of this year, it will connect 17 major cities in east China with a total length of 8,000 km and a band width of 40 G.
