Chinese Philosopher to Give Lecture at Confucian TempleChinese philosopher Tang Yijie will step to a rostrum that has been fallen into disuse for thousands of years at the Temple of Confucius (B.C.551-B.C.479) in Qufu of east China's Shandong Province this Sunday.Tang, also vice chairman of China Society of Confucius, will discuss global issues ranging from rational development of the nature, peaceful sharing of resources, to rescuing the mankind from spiritual crisis in his lecture entitled "Thoughts in Pursuit of Global Ethics". Tang will take the style of Confucius, who was said to lecture 3,000 disciples while being seated at the rostrum inside the Temple of Confucius, which was put onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995. Tang's lecture giving will be televised by Hunan Provincial Satellite Television Station, sources from the TV service said. The event is part of the program "2000 Forum" launched by the station. Previously, a number of other Chinese specialists or overseas scholars of Chinese origin, including Charles Zhang, President of Sohu. Com, a Chinese website portal, and Chinese economist Fan Gang were also invited to give lectures at renowned Yuelu Academy based in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province. Confucius was a great thinker, philosopher and educator who lived in the late Spring and Autumn Period (B.C.770-B.C. 476). He set up a sort of private school -- the earliest in Chinese history. He taught all who came to learn from him, bringing education to the ordinary people and breaking the monopoly of education by the nobility. He also founded Confucianism. |
