Farmers' Telephone Installation On Fast Increase
Home telephone installation has become a hot consumption spot in rural Zhejiang, one of China's leading economic developed provinces in east coastal region.
According to Zhejiang Telcom Company's Statistics, over 800,000 lines were fixed in the countryside in the first six months of this year, almost doubling the figure in the urban areas in the same period.
To promote information exchange of the rural areas with outside world and push their economic development, Zhejiang has over recent years stressed telecommunications networks construction in the countryside.
Through strengthening telecommunications infrastructure, the province has realized the goal that optical cables stretched to all the townships in 1997 and every village could have access to telephones in 1998.
In addition to the higher growth rate of telephone installation in rural areas than in cities, the telephone-possessing rate for rural families is drawing close to that in cities.
