October Sees The Third Time Speeding Up On Chinese RailwaysMinistry of Railways is expected to raise the speed of trains along railways for the third time and readjust the operating plans and schedules on a large scale in October. The person in charge of the ministry requires that the railways must avail of the opportunity to improve quality of service for passenger transportation. As reported, the Ministry of Railways has worked out 30 rules and regulations for major railway stations and express trains to be observed as service criteria. They refer specifically to the following aspects: facilities and furnishings, sanitation and environment, quality of staffs, service quality, and organization in transportation and management at the railway stations. Intensive efforts are going to be laid on solving the six key issues of frequent complaints, i.e. sanitation, washroom, bedding, drinking water, air-conditioning and service attitude. Furthermore, six points of promises corresponding to the above-mentioned problems have been taken so as to give the stations and trains a neat and pleasant look, to make washrooms work well, to provide cozy and neat beddings, to supply passengers with enough drinking water, and to keep the air fresh and temperature mild in waiting-rooms, as well as to offer enthusiastic and hospitable services to passengers. To improve the service quality, the Ministry of Railways has decided to exercise inspection and supervision on the work at some large stations and express trains and strict reward and punishment shall be imposed according to the actual situation of different cases.
