The tourism zone, to be built in Chengde city of Hebei province, three hours' drive from Beijing. will be on the venue of a famous summer resort for emperors and royal members of the Qing Dynasty (17th-20th century).

The zone will cover an area of 57 square kilometers and involve an investment of 3.6 billion yuan (some US$40 million).

At least two US companies and a Hong Kong company will take part in the program to construct the imperial gardens and palaces and some recreational facilities.
