Obesity Sickening China's Young Hearts

An increasing number of young and middle-aged Chinese are suffering from heart diseases because of obesity.

Medical research suggests that it is urgent to take effective measures to prevent it within the first few years of a child's life, China Daily reported on August 3.

According to Kong Lingzhi, division chief in charge of chronic disease control with the Ministry of Health, recent lifestyle changes have caused serious health problems and obesity is to blame for the increase in heart diseases.

As young to middle-aged people are shouldering the heaviest burden from work and daily chores, they seldom spare time for medical check-ups or physical exercises.

In addition, this age group was born around 1960 when China was undergoing a difficult time. Inadequate nutrition from birth could cause chronic diseases later on in life, experts said.

To fight against the possibility of contracting chronic diseases, experts called for a healthier lifestyle by eating less and doing more exercises, and an increasing health consciousness among young and middle-aged Chinese.
