China Holds Seminar on Xi'an IncidentChina held an international seminar Thursday in Xi'an to study the Xi'an Incident, which forced Kuomintang leader Chiang Kai-shek (1888-1975) to stop the civil war and fight against Japanese aggression.On December 12, 1936, Kuomintang generals Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng arrested Chiang Kai-shek in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province in northwest China, to force him to cooperate with the Communist Party of China in fighting against Japanese aggression. More than 60 people from China and overseas attended the meeting. They delivered more than 60 papers and discussed a wide range of issues relevant to the Incident. The seminar was sponsored by the Northwest University and Shaanxi Huaqingchi Tourism Company. |
