Meeting on State Grain Reserve Held in Beijing

The newly-established China Grain Reserve Management Corporation held its first meeting in Beijing recently to plan its work in the rest of this year, sources said Thursday.

The corporation was founded in June to specialize in managing the country's central grain and edible oil reserves.

Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao said that the setting-up of the corporation is a major decision made by the central leadership for ensuring the grain supply in China.

Wen urged the new company to make further reforms, strengthen management, and try to gradually reduce its reliance on government revenue.

At the meeting, the State Development Planning Commission and the corporation announced plans for the management of the central grain reserve for the second half of the year.
