More Chinese Choose to Travel in HolidaysAn increasing number of Chinese citizens plan to spend their week-long holiday traveling in other parts of the country or overseas, a result of the government's efforts to stimulate domestic consumption.According to a survey by the Chinese Economic Situation Monitoring Center, about 51.3 percent of the residents in seven big cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou plan to travel this year, 14 percent more than last year. Almost all of them prefer to travel by train without joining groups organized by travel agencies, the survey shows. Chinese now enjoy three week-long holidays every year since the government announced extension of some public holidays at the beginning of this year. Many Chinese went out traveling during the May Day holiday, which brought huge profits to the tourism industry and the service industry as a whole. According to the survey, about 41.1 percent of the people surveyed agree that the tourism industry benefits from their travel in the week-long holiday, 26.1 percent say they travel to help "develop the national economy," while 29 percent will go traveling to "get relaxed and learn more." And 86.4 percent of the surveyed say that they spend most in the Spring Festival period; 80.5 percent expect a consumption boom in major public holidays in the next three years. |
