Group Drawing not to Help China: Coach

The results of the drawing of lots for the preliminaries are not helping China as the Atlanta Olympics women's volleyball silver medalists start their campaign at the Sydney Olympics next month, China's head coach said Thursday in Macao.

Hu Jin said although China is drawn into an apparent weaker group which also includes Brazil, the United States, Croatia, Australia and Kenya, the squad will definitely have a tough quarterfinal to play.

He said according to schedule, top four teams from each group will face opponents from the other group to vie for a berth in the final four.

Hu expected Russia, Cuba, Italy and South Korea will qualify for the quarterfinals from the other group but each of them is tough to beat.

Hu added: "I would rather be drawn into a group with stronger teams so that the quarterfinals would be easier."

China is aiming at entering the last four at Sydney, he said.
