Shanghai People Favor Special Bookstores

Readers in Shanghai now have many opportunities to choose books for their recreation, the Shanghai-based Wenhui Daily has reported.

More and more readers prefer special bookstores, according to the latest statistics on book sales in the first half of the year in Shanghai.

The Shanghai Book City on the Fuzhou Road, a street full of well-known bookstores, sells various types of books, with average daily sales worth 400,000 yuan (US$48,200), the newspaper says.

However, a great proportion of readers favor books on computer science, art, college entrance examinations, laws and others.

Youngsters always go to Jifeng Bookstore, in downtown Shanghai, to buy cartoons and teaching materials on Harvard MBA courses, while researchers go to Luming Bookstore, near Fudan University, to get academic books, the newspaper says.
