Sino-Japan Joint Efforts in Vaccination Project

China and Japan have launched a joint project to strengthen vaccination work in China's west provinces and autonomous region including Shaanxi, Shanxi, Qinghai, Gansu and Ningxia.

Shaanxi and Shanxi will take the initial lead.

Yin Dakui, vice minister of Health said the project will help rural doctors in the country's western regions provide vaccination services.

He noted that western region's vaccination services lag behind state standards with frequent outbreaks of epidemics such as measles. Hepatitis vaccinations in poverty-stricken areas are few and far between.

Japan will send experts to China to provide technology consultation, training, facilities and other materials.

The Ministry of Health asked health departments to take effective efforts to ensure that there are adequate funds and equipment, as well as maintaining contacts with Japanese experts.

Experts predict that the project will largely improve vaccination in China's western areas, help the quality of work of rural doctors and improve the overall health level of children.
