New Boeing Airplane For China
A Boeing 767-400ER airplane, the newest member in the 767 fleet, landed tonight at Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, northwest China, with more than 40 passengers on an around-the-world tour that will take the plane to 17 cities and four continents.
As part of a month-long tour starting on July 10, the plane will have flight demonstrations in Urumqi, Shanghai, Beijing, and Haikou, capital city of south China's Hainan Province.
The fuselage of twin-aisle 767-400ER is about 201 feet, 21 feet longer than that of 767-300ER.
It can accommodate 245 to 375 passengers with the maximum distance 10,460 kilometers. The plane features aerodynamic improvements such as the innovative new raked wing tips, increased takeoff weight capability, a new upgraded flight deck with liquid crystal displays and all-new main landing gear. The first Boeing 767-400ER is scheduled to be sent to the Delta Air Lines of U.S. in the near future.
"Taking the Boeing 767-400ER directly to our customers gives them the opportunity to experience the comfort of the new-look interior, to see for themselves how well it performs and discover how the 767-400ER can fit into their operations," said John Quinlivan, Boeing 767 Program vice president and general manager.
As a leading airplane manufacturer in the world, Boeing Company has customers in about 145 countries and areas. It has around 190, 000 employees with total revenue of US$ 58 billion last year. Boeing entered China's market in 1972 and has been carrying out cooperation with China in different fields since then. It has produced 334 planes for airline companies in mainland China, accounting for 67 percent of the total owned by these companies, according to statistics released in February this year.
So far, Chinese factories in Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu and Shenyang can build assemblies and components.
Statistics show that the some portion of important assemblies and components of about 3,100 Boeing airplanes now in service are made in China.
