Xinjiang Destroys Maps Containing ErrorXinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has over the past few years confiscated and destroyed some 300,000 maps containing errors, a local official said.With the rapid development of local tourism industry, some publishing houses began publishing maps for benefits without the approval of relevant authorities and many maps they printed were found to contain serious errors, the official said. The errors include wrong border lines between China and neighboring countries and wrong boundary lines between Chinese provinces and autonomous regions, missing important islands, as well as marking place names in wrong locations. These maps have "harmed" the national sovereignty of China and resulted in negative political influences in addition to causing inconveniences for tourists, the official added. |
