Income Gap Between Urbanites, Peasants BiggerPrice reduction of farm produce has led to a bigger gap of income between urbanites and peasants in east China's Shandong Province, the country's No. 3 economic powerhouse.Cash income of peasants in Shandong saw a year-on-year 3 percent rise during the first half of this year, against the 15.1 percent increase for that of local urbanites, according to the latest official statistics. The provincial statistics did not tell how the high growth rate of urbanites' income came from, but said urbanites now have had multi-channel sources of income and that salary accounted for smaller proportion of the actual income. The half-year income of local urbanites reached 3,302 yuan per capita, compared to 1,206 yuan per capita for peasants during the period, which account for 70 percent of the population in the province. The 3 percent rise of peasants' income is mainly attributed to the income from animal husbandry and vegetable growing. |
