Estrada Vows to Secure All Philippine Diplomatic Establishments
Philippine President Joseph Estrada on Wednesday directed the Foreign Ministry to secure all Philippine diplomatic establishments abroad following the Tuesday bombing in Jakarta, Indonesia, Philippine News Agency (PNA) said.
The president, who is still in the United States for an official visit, was quoted as saying in a statement that he also directed Secretary of Foreign Affairs Domingo Siazon to extend all possible assistance to the families of those who perished in the dastardly attack.
The incident occurred Tuesday noon just in front of the Philippine Embassy in Central Jakarta, killing two and injured 23 others including Philippine Ambassador Leonides Caday.
"We strongly condemn this barbaric act and firmly strengthen our resolve to fight terrorism in all forms wherever it might take place," Estrada said.
"We are awaiting formal reports from the Indonesian government and from our intelligence services as to who is responsible for this despicable act," he noted
The president said he has directed Secretary Siazon to extend all possible assistance to Ambassador Caday and to the bereaved family members of the deceased.
"I have also directed Secretary Siazon to see to it that security precautions in all our diplomatic establishments are reviewed and strengthened," he added.
