CAAC Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) marked the 50th anniversary of the country's civil aviation service at the Tianjin Binhai International Airport Tuesday.

According to a CAAC official, New China's first civilian airliner departed from Tianjin to Chongqing on August 1, marking the official launching of new China's domestic air service.

Civil aviation service has become a crucial part of China' modern transport system, said the official.

Statistics show that by 1999, the sector's gross turnover volume was among the top 10 in the world, with passenger turnover volume coming in sixth place.

China has 1,115 air routes and 142 airports.
