Authorities to Deal with Insanitary Restaurants

The Chinese authorities, annoyed by consumers' complaints on the poor sanitary status of many local restaurants and refreshment rooms, plan to launch a nationwide inspection on these places.

The Ministry of Public Health and the State Administration of Internal Trade are ordering all localities to seriously follow the

"Methods on Control over the Sanitation of Food in the Catering Sector" which came to force on June 1 this year.

The two departments will try to further increase the awareness about sanitation among consumers and owners of these eating houses through publicity activities in various forms.

During the overall inspection, the authorities will check up sanitary conditions in these eating houses and crack down on unlicensed operations.

Local government departments concerned are urged to help local restaurants and refreshment rooms enhance their technological and sanitary level.
