Air France's Concorde Planes to Remain On The GroundAll of Air France's five remaining Concorde supersonic jet planes will remain grounded until a new order is given, after experts meeting on Monday in Paris failed to explain the disastrous crash of the Concorde this past Tuesday or make any new proposals on security measures.A spokesman from the General Direction of Civil Aviation under the French Ministry of Transport said Tuesday that primary proposals on safety measures will be given by experts to the Minister of Transport Jean-Claude Gayssot as soon as possible. The minister will then make a decision on a possible resumption of Concorde flights. Air France suspended all Concorde flights after one of its planes crashed last Tuesday in Paris, killing 114 people, 96 of them German tourists. The Bureau of Accident Investigation, which is in charge of investigating the crash, is now trying to establish a probable scenario of the accidents by linking known elements, including the explosion of one or two tires, an intensive fire, the breakdown of an engine, and problems with the undercarriage. Experts from France and Britain held a meeting on Monday until late in the night on extra security measures for the Concorde, but the meeting ended without issuing any declarations. |
