Chinese Enterprises Meet Environmental StandardsAll industrial enterprises in China will meet national standards of waste disposal by the end of the year, environmental official said Monday.Wang Jirong, deputy director of the State Environmental Protection Administration, told an international seminar today that 86 percent of Chinese enterprises have met national requirements of pollution control. She said that the Chinese government has adopted powerful measures to control the discharge of waste on land to protect the marine eco-system. She noted that China has invested 25.1 billion yuan in construction of 85 sewage treatment plants in 11 coastal provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions over the past few years. These plants have a total capacity of treating 12.27 million tons of sewage from cities every day.
