Beijing Reception Marks Sino-Nepalese Diplomatic Ties

The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) held a reception in Beijing Tuesday evening to mark the 45th anniversary of the forging of Sino-Nepalese diplomatic relations.

Cheng Siwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), together with other senior Chinese officials, attended the reception.

CPAFFC President Qi Huaiyuan said on the occasion that China and Nepal are good neighbors linked by mountains and rivers, and their peoples have a time-honored friendship, adding that the two countries have respected each other, and had fruitful cooperation in political, economic, scientific, technological and other areas.

"The Chinese government and people cherish Sino-Nepalese relations, and the further development of such relations between the two countries is in the fundamental interests of their peoples, " Qi said.

Nepalese ambassador to China, Rajeshwar Acharya, said that Nepal-China relations can serve as a good model for peaceful co-existence between neighbors, and such relations have stood the test of time, adding that Nepal does not allow any countries to engage in any activities undermining China's interests in its territory.

He said that Nepal will continue to pursue the one-China policy, and support China on the issues of human rights, Taiwan and Tibet. He also praised China's positive role in the international arena and in promoting cooperation among developing countries.
