Cooperation Between E. China Province and Singapore Strengthened

East China's Shandong Province has enjoyed fruitful cooperation with Singapore in the areas of infrastructure construction, trade, finance, tourism, information exchange and personnel training.

Du Shicheng, vice-governor of the province, said the achievements are attributed to the establishment of the Economic and Trade Council between Singapore and Shandong in 1993.

By May this year, the number of Singapore-funded projects in Shandong had reached 596, introducing 1.58 billion US dollars of contractual investment from Singapore.

Singapore ranks 6th among overseas investors in Shandong in terms of the amount of investment.

From January to May this year, bilateral trade stood at 110 million US dollars, including Shandong's nearly 80 million US dollars of exports to Singapore, more than double the 1999 figure.

Shandong has sent 690 people, in 28 groups, to Singapore to learn expertise.
