Sacred Mountain and Lake in Tibet Attract TouristsMt. Kangrinboqe and L. Mapan Yumco, worshipped as the holy mountain and sacred lake by Tibetans, have become new tourist attractions in recent years. To make full use of local tourist resources, Tibet has opened two specially designed tourist routes to the holy mountain and sacred lake, built new roads and opened hotels, tea houses and restaurants with Tibetan flavor in recent years. The number of tourists to the two places last year exceeded 20, 000, of whom, 3,200 came from outside China. The 6,600-meter-high Mt Kangrinboqe, in Burang County of the Tibet Autonomous Region, is one of the highest peaks of Gangdise Ranges. As the four sides of the mountain are perfectly symmetrized, it looks like a pyramid and therefore is deemed as the center of the world by Buddhist worshipers in China and India. The 400-square-kilometer L. Mapam Yumco is one of the highest fresh water lakes in the world and described as the King of the lakes.
