Chinese, Nepalese Prime Ministers Hail 45 Years of Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Zhu Rongji Tuesday exchanged congratulations with his Nepalese counterpart, Girija Prasad Koirala, on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between their two countries.

In his message to Koirala, Zhu said China and Nepal are friendly neighbors linked by common mountains and rivers, and the traditional friendship between the two peoples dates back to ancient times.

In the 45 years since the setting-up of diplomatic ties, China- Nepal relations have developed smoothly on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence and cooperation between the two sides in various fields has been fruitful, Zhu said.

"We are full of confidence of the establishment of the 21st century-oriented China-Nepal generation-to-generation good- neighborly partnership," Zhu added.

Koirala said in his message that the relationship between Nepal and China has been marked by "cordial friendship, cooperation and good neighborliness."

Koirala expressed the belief that Nepal and China can work in close concert toward playing a meaningful role in ensuring a more just and peaceful world in the days ahead.

On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his Nepalese counterpart, Chakra Prasad Bastola, also exchanged greetings on the occasion.
