China Improves Family Planning Services in Western China

The Chinese government will spend 180 million yuan in the next few years to improve family planning services in the poorest areas of its western regions, the State Development Planning Commission said in Beijign Monday.

The money will be used to buy vehicles equipped with medical apparatus for local family planning departments so that they can provide better services to local people, a spokesman of the commission said.

In the first stage, the government will spend 90 million yuan this year to provide vehicles for the 340 poverty-stricken counties scattered over 20 regions in central and western China.
