Saving Chinese Prone to Spending Lottery WinsA recent survey shows that saving Chinese usually become ungrudging after they hit a fortune in a lottery.Of the 4,800 respondents in China's 26 provinces and municipalities, 72.3 percent said they will spend the money right away rather than put it into banks, according to the survey conducted by China Welfare Lottery Issuing Center. The items on the spending priority list of those surveyed ranges from purchasing of house and cars to house decoration and wedding, things that are too expensive for ordinary Chinese. Some experts were encouraged by the results of the survey, noting that lottery will be a boost to the country's domestic consumption. As they calculated, nearly four billion yuan will be put into consumption if 10 billion yuan worth of charity lotteries are issued every year. A total of 39.52 billion yuan worth of lottery had been issued by the end of 1999 since China began to issue charity lottery 13 years ago. |
