Nepali Newspaper Hails Cordial Sino-Nepal Ties

Nepal's official English daily The Rising Nepal Monday carried a bylined article which highly praised the smooth development of Nepal-China relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on August 1, 1955.

The article by Prof. Bishwa Pradhan said the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Nepal and China was significant in culminating the bilateral relations into a new height in the context of the changed situations and circumstances in the world.

The article stressed that Nepal-China relations has been guided by the fundamental principles of mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, non-interference, equality and mutual benefit.

It praised such a relationship as "an example of correct international norms and practices, a correct norm of relationship between big and small powers."

"China's attitude and behavior toward Nepal is marked by a sense of positive out-look and never resorted to the practice of interfering in the internal affairs of Nepal."

China was one of the first two countries to extend their unequivocal support to Nepal's declaration as a land of peace in the shape of ZOP (zone of peace), the article pointed out.

On the economic front, China has "extended, to whatever extent possible, cooperative help and assistance to the economic development of Nepal," the article added.

Citing a number of projects assisted by China, the article noted that he Chinese-aided projects were basic infrastructures for development which had immediate impact on the Nepalese economy.

"The Chinese aid programs were very popular as they were without any string attached," it said.
