DNA Extracted from Ancient Human Remains

Chinese archeologists have successfully extracted DNA from ancient human remains, as is known from Sunday's meeting marking the 50 anniversary of the founding of Archeology Research Institution under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

A new branch of archeology-molecular archeology has appeared in recent years. Scientists have analyzed and studied DNA extracted from the remains of an ancient man found in tombs in Linzi, Shangdong Province. After having successfully extracted DNA from ancient human bones 2000 and 2500 years ago, as well as that of modern man, they have completed the statistic analysis on DNA sequence of people of three different historic periods in the same region. In this way, they revealed the similarities and differences between ancients and modern men in terms of their geographical distribution and genetic structure on the Shandong Peninsula.
