China Sacks 10,000 Public ServantsThe Chinese government has sacked more than 11,000 public servants over the past four years, according to sources from the Ministry of Personnel Sunday.Since China began reform of its personnel system in 1993, more than 150,000 people from all over the country have become public servants through official examinations, including 2,636 farmers and 10,631 workers. The country has also set up a discipline and punishment system for public servants who are not doing their job properly. Governments at various levels sacked 2,680 public servants in 1996, 2,898 public servants in 1997, 2,937 in 1998 and 2,881 in 1999. Over the past four years, 11,624 public servants have resigned from the government jobs. |
