Guangzhou Customs Reports Tariff Revenue Rise

Customs in this capital of south China's Guangdong Province, collected 6.106 billion yuan (about US$ 736 million) in tariffs in the first six months of the year.

Information from Guangzhou customs said that the volume was 3. 95 percent up from the same period last year, or 57 percent of the pre-set quota for 2000.

Customs handled US$ 5.722 billion worth of imported commodities from January to June, up 23.63 percent from the same period last year.

The imported commodities were dominated by machinery and electronic products, and construction materials, said the sources.

Observers believe that the moderate tariff revenue increase suggests a stable development in Guangdong's foreign trade since the beginning of the year.
