Software Alliance Established
An international software alliance called Allwin was set up over the weekend in this capital city of Northeast China's Liaoning Province to promote the Chinese software industry.
The alliance covers software top guns, including developers and franchisers. Together with users, they will try to improve the country's software market," said Liu Jiren, president of Shenyang-based Neu-Alpine company. The firm is one of the major members of the alliance and is also the country's leading software maker.
Members of the alliance expect to improve their businesses through co-operation.
According to Liu, the alliance has attracted nearly 800 players in the software market from home and abroad, including some of the world's famous software makers such as Oracle, Lotus, Sybase, NAI and Veritas.
More than 100 representatives from member companies attended the alliance's founding ceremony. Most of them are already reaping benefits.
The alliance is being supported by the Ministry of Information Industry and the National Software Industry Association.
Liu said: "Software will be one of the basic industries of the future. Users in China currently demand more and more complicated software services which are more reliable and give after-sales service. It is difficult for any single company to provide such services in a relatively short space of time. Even some world famous companies have experienced similar problems in China," said Liu.
"The co-operation agreement is being led by market demand, which every firm needs to be aware of."
The co-operation between the United States and India is a good example. The USA's advantage in technology and marketing and India's rich resource in computer professionals have helped the two countries take 60 per cent of the software market in the world, Liu added.
He said China had a big market, but only 0.1 per cent has so far been tapped. Small and medium-sized companies could now rapidly develop that market with support from other members in the alliance.
"I hope the alliance becomes a well-known and permanent fixture," said the president. (China Daily)
