HK Chief Executive Meets Foreign Minister of Japan

Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), met with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Yohei Kono at Government House Sunday morning.

Tung briefed Kono on the latest developments in the Hong Kong SAR, including the progress of its economic recovery following the Asian financial turmoil.

Kono said that he was very impressed by the fact that, under the leadership of Tung, Hong Kong had successfully implemented the principle of "one country, two systems", and had been making significant economic recovery after the Asian financial turmoil.

Noting that Hong Kong is a major international city and a gateway to the mainland, Kono said that the success and prosperity of Hong Kong would make an important contribution to the region.

Tung noted the progress of the economic recovery made in Japan and emphasized its importance to Hong Kong. He was pleased to see that the number of Japanese tourists visiting Hong Kong had been rising, and looked forward to more and deeper exchange between the people of Japan and Hong Kong.
