100,000 Shanghai Citizens Benefit From Charity Fund

The Shanghai Charity Foundation has collected over 300 million yuan since it was founded six years ago and has spent 185 million yuan on charity public welfare projects.

According to sources from a meeting of the Shanghai charity foundation held Saturday, over 100,000 poor citizens have directly benefited from the charity foundation.

In the past six years, the charity foundation helped open six charity clinics, offered free medical treatment I.D's for over 1, 600 poor old people.

The Foundation also bought more than 2,000 wheelchairs for the handicapped in several communities and offered numerous basic necessities for 18 retirement home.

The Foundation funded over 7,000 poor students to complete their compulsory education. It also launched charity training programs for 27,000 layoffs and the disabled.

Shi Derong, secretary-general of the Charity Foundation, said the Foundation has arranged various kinds of activities to raise more money such as annual charity singing and dancing performances, street donation-collection involving 10,000 people, and charity fairs.

In the past six years, millions of Shanghai residents and over 10,000 enterprises have participated in donating money to the Foundation.
