Chinese President Meets Jordanian Parliament Leader
"This again reflects the complexity of the Mideast issue, and shows there are twists and turns on the road to peace," Jiang said in a meeting with Abdul Hadi Al Al-Majali, speaker of Jordan's House of Representatives, in this coastal summer resort 300 kilometers east of Beijing. Jiang said China hopes that parties concerned in the region will earnestly carry out the agreements based on UN resolutions and the principle of land for peace, so as to make gradual progress in the peace talks, and settle the Palestine's final status as soon as possible. China is especially concerned about the Middle East peace process, and has made unremitting efforts to push forward the process, he added.
The two countries have kept frequent exchanges of visits, and Jordanian King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein's visit to China last year invigorated bilateral relations. China is willing to work with Jordan to promote bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, Jiang said, adding that facts have proven the ongoing support of bilateral cooperation is in the fundamental interests of the people of the two countries. He said that China is pleased to see the achievements that the Jordanian people, under the leadership of King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein, have scored in safeguarding state sovereignty, developing the economy and raising people's standards of living. Jiang said that Jordan, a country of unique importance in Middle East, has made a vital contribution to the Middle East peace process, adding that China appreciates this very much. Majali conveyed greetings of King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein to President Jiang, who asked Majali to extend his greetings in return. He also briefed Jiang on Jordan's stance on the Palestine-Israel peace talks and the Iraqi issue, saying he appreciated China's support for the just cause of the Arabs. He said that Jordan hopes to further expand cooperation with China in economic, technological, cultural and other areas. | ||
